The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics started its academic journey in 2018 within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University. The program lasts 8 semesters and is conducted in Turkish. It consists of four main disciplines:

  • Nutritional Sciences
  • Dietetics
  • Institutional Food Service Systems
  • Community Nutrition

The department aims to promote lifelong adequate and balanced nutrition in society, protect, improve, and enhance public health and quality of life. Additionally, it seeks to educate dietitians who:

  • Possess universal values and respect both national and international standards.
  • Are culturally aware and play an active role in fostering awareness of balanced nutrition.
  • Have the necessary knowledge and skills, including fundamental medical sciences education.
  • Think in line with Atatürk's principles.
  • Provide education, research, and consultancy services at national and international standards.

The undergraduate program is 4 years long.

Educational Objectives

The program's core educational objectives are as follows:

  1. To equip students with the ability to effectively apply, evaluate, interpret, solve problems, and make decisions in alignment with professional ethics.
  2. To enable students to present their professional knowledge and expertise in relevant committees, boards, and meetings.
  3. To foster interdisciplinary evaluation, interpretation, and teamwork skills.
  4. To train research-oriented and innovative dietitians who stay up-to-date with scientific advancements and promote sustainable nutrition while protecting human and environmental health.

The curriculum follows the Higher Education Council (YÖK) Core Education Program for Nutrition and Dietetics (ÇEP) and includes both theoretical and practical courses. Students must complete all required and elective courses over 8 semesters and earn 240 ECTS credits to graduate.

The department welcomed its first undergraduate students in the 2018-2019 academic year and graduated its first cohort in 2022. Since then, it has continued to produce new graduates each year.
