PHYSİCAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS TEACHİNG

Our department; has undertaken the mission of producing outstanding knowledge and providing services to individuals through project and collective service applications which give importance to qualified education. It is necessary to develop individuals in all dimensions in order to be able to reveal and develop physical and mental competences. It is aimed to provide lifelong learning for individuals and to educate physical education teachers who serve for the society having contemporary, creative and different thinking skills. In addition to these, training academicians who are involved in scientific and sporting events in local, national and international arenas is among the goals. In line with the principles and revolutions of Atatürk, our department adopts a vision based on the creative, constructivist approach that is open to innovations, exchanges and developments in the light of sports science. In addition, our department educates individuals with pioneering, leading and quality of life with contemporary and universal values. Furthermore, our department insists on the quality of contemporary education and educates individuals who contribute to the development of physical education and sports education programs. Our school, affiliated to Selçuk University, was established with the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette dated November 18, 1997 and numbered 23174 and started education as "Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching" in 1998 - 1999 academic year. Our school was affiliated to Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University in 2007. With the result of the Special Talent Exam, a total of 50 students, are enrolled in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching each year; the quota for national sportsmen is 10. In 2017- 2018 there are 209 students, 134 male, 75 female. Moreover, there are 41 national sportsmen at our department; 36 male, 5 female. Our department aims to create environments that enable scientific knowledge to be produced by carrying out scientific research that aims to bring education and training goals to the highest level. Our department consists of 1 associate professor, 4 lecturers (phd.), 3 lecturers and 1 research assistant.
