The ceremony held at the July 15 Conference Hall was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gavgalı, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. İdris Nebi Uysal, Dean of the Faculty of Literature Prof. Dr. Mehmet Mercan, university staff, families, and students.
The event commenced with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the screening of the university’s promotional film and opening speeches.
Following the valedictory address by the faculty’s top graduate, Aflar Mohamed Anver, Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Mercan spoke, noting that the Faculty of Literature was established in 2006, welcomed its first students in 2009, and was now proudly celebrating its 13th graduation ceremony. He expressed gratitude to those who contributed to organizing the event, as well as to the families and students in attendance.
“May your path be clear, your words powerful, and your pen fruitful”
Rector Mehmet Gavgalı began his speech by stating, “Today, we take great pride in graduating young individuals who aspire to understand, articulate, and transform the world through the power of words.” He continued: “Being a scholar of literature, history, linguistics, or philosophy is not merely about specializing in a field. It is also about striving to understand the human condition, reflecting society’s essence, posing questions about humanity, and sometimes multiplying those questions, which are often more valuable than the answers themselves. For this reason, we have great expectations of you. Wherever you go, in every institution you work, and with every step you take, be the intellectual conscience of this nation. Your words are your treasure. A society’s destiny is shaped by how it speaks and thinks. You will safeguard this nation’s language, preserve its culture, and carry the legacy of the past into the future. May your path be clear, your words powerful, and your pen fruitful.”
The ceremony concluded with students tossing their caps in celebration.
