In the April 7, 2026 episode of the program “NEU Tarih ile Tarihin Kadrajından,” broadcast on KONTV and hosted by Prof. Dr. Ömer Soner Hunkan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Kapar, a faculty member of our department, and Prof. Dr. Yusuf Sayın, a faculty member at NEU, discussed the “Regional and Global Impacts of the U.S./Israel–Iran Conflict.” The recent intensification of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East was addressed from both historical and analytical perspectives. In particular, the relationships among the United States, Israel, and Iran were evaluated in a multidimensional framework.

During the discussions, it was emphasized that the power struggle among these actors is not limited to contemporary developments; rather, it is shaped within a broader context encompassing historical background, ideological differences, and regional strategic interests. In this regard, the post–Cold War transformation of U.S.–Iran relations, Israel’s security policies, and Iran’s pursuit of regional influence were analyzed comparatively. The program also examined the impacts of current tensions in the Middle East on energy policies, global trade routes, and the international security architecture. The participants highlighted that factors such as energy supply security and the restructuring of regional alliances play a decisive role in the globalization of these crises. Another prominent point raised in the program was the determining influence of historical processes on contemporary political developments. Within this framework, an effort was made to identify continuities and ruptures between past diplomatic crises and military interventions and present-day developments.
