A group of faculty members from our History Department convened on 19 November 2025 under the chairmanship of the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Mercan and the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Uğur Kurtaran. The primary agenda of the meeting was to improve the academic and educational quality of the department and to contribute to the development of students as better-equipped and more motivated individuals. Key topics highlighted during the meeting included the updating of the curriculum and the greater integration of contemporary historiographical approaches into course content, as well as the increased use of digital history tools in both undergraduate and graduate courses.

Discussions also focused on the following areas:

-Organizing regular reading groups and field trips to strengthen student–faculty interaction,

-Making open-access resources more effectively available to students,

-Introducing new initiatives such as the “Historiography Workshop” to enable undergraduate students to acquire scientific project and academic writing skills at an early stage,

-Supporting students’ career planning through alumni–student meetings and related activities.

The faculty members expressed a shared vision as follows:

“Our goal is not merely to transmit knowledge but to train historians who think critically, question sources and connect the past with contemporary issues. The proposals that emerged from this meeting will transform our department into a far more dynamic and student-centred structure.”

The participating faculty members reached a consensus that the decisions taken will be implemented starting from the next academic year.
