The Academic Meeting organized by the History Department for the purpose of planning education–instruction and quality assurance processes for the 2025–2026 academic year was held on Monday, 19 January 2026, at 13:00, in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Letters. During the meeting, planning related to course coordinators and course distribution for the Spring Semester of the 2025–2026 academic year was evaluated, and the necessary decisions were taken. In addition, the processes concerning the admission and distribution of graduate students within the History Department were discussed, and assessments were made regarding the effective and sustainable conduct of educational activities. Among the agenda items, the process of entering institute course information packages into the system was also addressed, and academic staff were informed about the relevant procedures.

During the meeting, course responsibilities and course distribution to be undertaken by the department’s academic staff in the Spring Semester of the 2025–2026 Academic Year were evaluated through a slide presentation. As a result of the discussions, certain courses were added or removed, and the course distribution was approved in its final form, taking into account the balance of academic staff workload and program learning outcomes.

Requests submitted by some academic staff members regarding the offering of elective courses were also discussed. While these requests, aimed at increasing program diversity, were deemed appropriate, it was decided to postpone their implementation to a later date within the framework of academic planning and the implementation schedule.

The methods to be applied in the admission of students to the History Department’s master’s and doctoral programs were evaluated, and consensus was reached on adhering to the following principles in order to ensure that post-admission advising and departmental placement processes are conducted in a transparent, fair, and academically merit-based manner:

a) Giving priority consideration to the preferences and requests of graduate students who have prior knowledge and awareness of the department or the academic staff member with whom they will pursue their studies,

b) Conducting individual meetings with students who do not have prior knowledge or a predetermined decision regarding the department or academic staff member, and guiding them toward departments aligned with their academic interests,

c) Directing students to academic staff members who have expertise in the fields relevant to the students’ intended research topics or who are deemed available due to a relatively lower number of existing graduate advisees.

The meeting concluded following the expression of wishes and recommendations by the participants. It is intended that the meeting will contribute to enhancing the quality of education and instruction within the History Department and to strengthening institutional quality assurance processes.
